FEATURES OF A WINE GLASS

Updated: Apr 8, 2018

Features of a wine glass are made to improve the taste of a type of wine.

THE BASE

Make sure your glass doesn't tip over.

Yikes!!

THE STEM

The greater distance your hands are from your nose will prevent other aromas from interfering with the aromas of the wine. Holding from the bottom of the stem is best.

THE BOWL

The bigger the bowl the better! This allows for proper swirling and the release of volatile aroma compounds. The more surface area the more compounds are released. Don't fill the glass too high and don't cradle the bowl in your hand unless you want to warm the wine.

THE RIM

The thinner the rim the better! This allows the taster to feel more of the wine and less of the glass.
